1) Cuál es el URL del Area de chat de FortuneCity?
http://chat.fortunecity.com:8001/eshare/server?action=4

:

1) No swearing, profanity, rudeness, insults, bigoted, sexual, sexist, homophobic or racist comments or nicknames.

2) Do not use all CAPS when typing.

If you break these rules you will be removed from the chat. If you re-enter and break the rules again, you will be banned permanently.

3) How do I get started, and what are the differences between HTML and Java light chat?
The two different options affect the way your chat operates, and you have some choices based on the computer and system you're using to get in with. If you're using either:
  • AOL
  • WebTV
  • A Mac
  • A PC with Windows 3.1
Then simply choose the HTML option by clicking on the button in front of it.

Otherwise, click on the Java light button, for the faster way to chat. Once you've chosen the relevant option, just click on the "Enter Now" button.

You'll soon be transported to the Chat window. Be patient -- it takes a few moments for the entire program to load.

4) What can I do if I still have problems logging on?
First, try clicking on the box titled: "Trouble logging on? Click here and try again!". Try logging in again after clicking on that box. Your response will be slower because the server is downloading UNCOMPRESSED versions of either the Java Light Java class files. Start up will also be slower because the file sizes are larger. If the Java Client does not initialize, even after the download is complete, hit the Reload button on your browser and the problem should be corrected. If not, then consider the following options:
  • You may be behind a firewall. That's a protective device to prevent hacking. Although our Chat works behind most firewalls, each security system is different. You may want to ask your Internet Service Provider if there's another phone number you can use that's not behind the firewall, or talk to your system administrator.
  • Browsers: You should use version 3.01 or newer of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape browser.
  • Avoid using a modem connection of less than 28.8. If you must use a 14.4, use the "HTML" interface choice. If the chat window is not loading or is loading very slowly, use the "HTML" interface.
  • There may be something non-standard about your Internet connection. Some Internet providers use "proxies" to connect their members to the Internet. Ask your Internet provider.
  • On some days, your connection may be slower than other days. On the slow days, give the chat window extra time to load. Always try to exit the chat window properly: if you close your browser without using the "Exit" choice in the chat window, your user name is NOT logged off immediately.
  • On the days you have problems logging in, try to go to other sites to get a feel for how fast your connection is that day.
  • Macintosh user should always use the "HTML" interface.
If you're still not able to log onto chat, contact [email protected]. When you do, include the following information:
-- The type of computer you're using (for example, Macintosh FX, Compaq Presario 5802).
-- Your modem speed
-- How you log onto the Internet: Do you dial up to an Internet Service Provider, or do you use a T1 line, etc.
-- Which interface you tried to log on with: HTML, Java Light, Java, etc.
-- What time and date you had the problem.

Please try to be as specific as possible. This will help FC Support to get back to you as quickly as possible.

5) How do I send a private message?
It is easy to send a direct message to anyone on FC Chat.

1. In the User list, highlight the users name you want to send a private message to.
2. Click on the User Options button. (In the HTML interface, just click on the users name to get the message panel!)
*NOTE:Instead of steps 1 and 2, you can just double-click on the user's name in the Users tab.
3. In the dialog box that pops up, type in your message in the "Message Text" field.
4. Click on Send to send the message. Click Cancel to cancel this message.

Note: If the user has indicated that they do not want to accept any direct messages, your message will be refused.

6) How do I change rooms?
Click on the Rooms button. this will open up another window, which displays the rooms available. Click on one of the rooms to highlight it, then press the Goto Room Button to take you to it.

7) When I click on a banner ad, how do I return to the chat room?
The banner area above the FC Chat room text window displays banners that may be of interest to you as a member of the community. You can click on a banner and instantly be transported to a Web site that will tell you more about the product or service featured in the banner. In most cases, clicking on a banner opens up a new browser window; you can still chat or explore the discussion forums while searching out new sites in the new browser window.

To return to chat, just locate the chat window and click on it to active it.

8) What does it mean if a red message appears?
If a message appears in your Chat window thats in a different color, its a private message.

9) How do I change my user name?
The only way to change your username is to log off chat, using the exit button, re-enter your name, and log onto chat again.

10) How do I follow another user?
This is a useful feature if you want to travel through individual Chat rooms with a friend, a kind of "room hopping", however, it is only available with the HTML login option. If you tell FC chat that you want to follow another user in and out of Chat rooms, you will be automatically transported with them if they enter another room.

To follow another user:

  • Highlight their user name in the User list.
  • Choose the Follow button.
  • To stop following the user, follow the procedure to highlight the followed user, and click on Stop Following. You will be travelling solo again.

11) How do I ignore a user?
You can tell FC Chat that you do not want to hear from a particular user logged onto the system. If that user tries to send you a direct message, they will receive a system message in their Messages window telling them that their message was ignored. You will not receive their message. You will not see any messages sent by that user in any of the Chat rooms you both may be in.

To tell FC Chat that you want to ignore messages from another user:

  • Highlight their user name in the User list.
  • Choose the Ignore button.

The "Ignore" feature needs to be re-applied if either you or the ignored user logs off and then back on again.

12) Who are the Administrators?
The administrators are a range of FortuneCity Ministers, who log into chat and help to ensure that the rules are upheld, and FC Chat is a pleasant place to be.
